Wow-July 31st was my last post. I knew life had been busy, but didn’t realize that crazy busy. Lots of things contributed to my lack of updating. But hopefully I can get back on track!
I am a nursing professor at the local college, so of course August starts my school/work year. That takes up quite a bit of the free time that I had during the summer. Plus you know Covid moves plans around all the time. My three lovely children also started back to school so schedules of busses, homework, and extra curriculars.
Probably the biggest thing was my mental health took a step back. My anxiety was ratcheting through the roof with the current healthcare situation. The hospital I work in is beyond short staffed and patients’ are sicker then before. We are expected to do more with less and just be okay with it. I felt guilty not going in to pick up hours to help out. But with being at the hospital 3 days a week teaching with my nursing students and then working as a nurse a couple days a week, I wasn’t getting a break from all of it. I finally took a step back and took a little time away from picking up and talked to my PCP and got some of my medications switched around. I am finally feeling like I am in a much better place mental health wise.
We took a long weekend and went to Gettysburg with my son and his best friend. We had a lot of fun, but the night we got back I started with a headache and some nasal congestion. My oldest had a slight head cold the week before and I assumed I had just picked up what she had. We had masked, sanitized, followed social distancing etc while on vacation. After about 4 days I lost my sense of smell and knew I had covid. My husband had ended up starting with symptoms a day or so after I did, and lost his smell the day after me. So after having the kids home in isolation, they go back to school next week and we can get back to a normal routine. So far they have had zero symptoms. So who knows where I picked it up, could have been the hospital, my oldest head cold, vacation, or the grocery store. Just was thankful it was a super mild case and we didn’t spread it to anyone else that could have gotten potentially really sick. I’ll be delaying getting my booster and kids immunizations for a few weeks now since we have all been exposed. I’m super thankful kids immunizations are ready and hopefully we can start to see this pandemic behind us. Our sickest of sick are 9.5/10 unvaccinated. Its heartbreaking to see people die and have lifelong complications from something they could have prevented by getting immunized.
SO in closing, I am making it a point to start focusing on me a bit more. Including my blog, health, etc. (End of semester is in site, although planning for spring as already begun!) I hope that you check in with me as I update. I’ll be working on baking for the holidays and lots of exciting house projects and projects on the farm are happening!
